Health risks in Uganda
Uganda requires a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate for all travellers aged one year and over — no exceptions for transit passengers. Yellow Fever transmission risk exists throughout the country, so both the entry requirement and the vaccine recommendation apply wherever you are visiting. Malaria is present at high levels across Uganda, and Hepatitis A and Typhoid protection is essential given food and water hygiene risks. Uganda also currently has ongoing Ebola and mpox clade I outbreaks, making a thorough pre-travel health consultation particularly important. Medway Pharmacy Travel Clinic in Gillingham, Kent is a registered YFVC — book same-day Uganda travel vaccinations with no GP referral needed.
- Malaria: high risk throughout Uganda — antimalarial tablets are strongly recommended for all destinations
- Food and waterborne illness: Hepatitis A and Typhoid vaccination recommended for all travellers
- Schistosomiasis: risk from contact with freshwater including Lake Victoria and other lakes and rivers
- Rabies: present in domestic animals; pre-exposure vaccination considered for longer stays or those working with animals
- Ebola and mpox clade I: active outbreaks — seek up-to-date travel health advice before departure
